Mr. Katz is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. After law school he clerked for the Honorable Benjamin H. Kaplan of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and worked in the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, an agency of the City of Boston. He then joined the Boston law firm Hill & Barlow where he became a partner and served as a member of the firm's management committee and as chair of the corporate department and of the intellectual property practice group. He came to the Office of the General Counsel from the Boston office of the law firm Day Pitney LLP, where he was a partner. At Harvard, Mr. Katz advises on the planning and structuring of international projects and assists with consulting and other vendor agreements, licensing deals, and a variety of general corporate transactions. He also counsels on privacy and data security issues. Mr. Katz is a member of the University committee on investment policies for retirement plans.
